North Carolina Claims Two Middle School Winners
in National Career Development Month
Poster & Poetry Contest

Two North Carolina students from First Flight Middle School in Dare County are winners in the 2007-08 National Career Development Month Poster & Poetry Contest, sponsored by the National Career Development Association. Sponsored annually in our state by the North Carolina Career Development Association, this year’s theme was Find Your Voice - Change Your World

Congratulations to Kris Lane for the national 3rd place winning poem and to Jimmy Morgenroth for the national 3rd place winning mixed-media poster! Their exciting voices promise lots of positive change for our world. Kudos, too, to Kathey Lamm, Jennie Rook, and W.B. Jordan, the Dare County educators who encouraged their students to participate in this competition.

Poster & Poetry Contest State Winners

Hats off to the nineteen students from around the state who participated in the North Carolina Career Development Association’s (NCCDA) Career Development Month Poster & Poetry Contest. Special congratulations to those who submitted winning entries to the state contest and to the teachers and local contest coordinators who encouraged them!  Winning entries at the state level were submitted for consideration at the national level, and two of those entries claimed national titles. Congratulations!

National third-place winners.

It’s not too early to plan for this November’s contest. Each year teachers and local contest coordinators hold local competitions or sponsor interested individuals during November to determine which entries move to the state-level competition. First-, second-, and third-place entries in each category then move on to the national contest in January. NCCDA awards contestants who win first place $50, and second-place winners receive $25. Perhaps of greater consequence is the opportunity for youth and adults to demonstrate their creativity in connecting the contest theme with their hopes and dreams. North Carolinians have been national winners approximately every other year since 2001.

SOICC – CRN will post information about the 43rd annual NCDA Career Development Month Poster & Poetry Month Contest as soon as it is available. In the meantime, you may wish to gather ideas for planning your November 2008 Career Development Month activities by visiting the National Career Development Association site.
